Local environment group YACCA (Youth And Community in Conservation Action) are the proud recipients of the very first $1,000 grant awarded by the Fleurieu chapter of the Awesome Foundation.

Saskia Gerhardy of YACCA accepted the award from Lif Sunset, Dean of the Awesome Foundation Fleurieu, at an Ideas on the Fleurieu networking event held at the Normanville Hotel recently.

YACCA is an environmental youth group in Willunga, that teaches young people about environmental projects and issues in their local community. YACCA has educated its members on the basic principles of natural land restoration and enables its members to design, construct and maintain the projects they work on.

Saskia was one of three finalists selected from the many applications received. The other finalists were Jane from The Green Pantry, Victor Harbour, and Christiana from Aldinga Bike Kitchen.

Saskia paid tribute to Kurtis Woodhall, who was instrumental in preparing the grant application.

The Awesome Foundation is a global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, $1000 at a time.

Each fully autonomous chapter supports awesome projects through micro-grants, usually given out monthly. These micro-grants, $1000 or the local equivalent, come out of pockets of the chapter’s “trustees” and are given on a no-strings-attached basis to people and groups working on awesome projects.

According to Lif Sunset, “The Fleurieu Peninsula is full of awesome ideas, creatives, change makers, community organisations and individuals doing awesome things for our beautiful region.

“Awesome Foundation Fleurieu is passionate about seeing them flourish! We grant one thousand dollars every month with zero strings attached. Just the money awesome needs. Let us know what you are planning, why it’s awesome and how you plan to spend the money.”
