This year Council achieved the lowest rate increase in the history of the City of Onkaparinga.
Of course, a low rate results in a reduction in income and the possibility of a reduction in infrastructure. I am pleased to inform you that we have achieved both a low rate increase without a reduction in the planned installation of Infrastructure in South Coast Ward for this 19/20 financial year.
There are several State Government projects being developed and it is critical that the way they interface with Council’s infrastructure and the pressure that they may place is well considered.
These include: –
- Duplication of South Road (DPTI) Seaford to Aldinga Beach
- Structure and Master planning for Aldinga Development land (Renewal SA)
- Integration of the new Super School (DECs) with the Aldinga Sports Park
There are many things to consider such as increase vehicle numbers, parking, stormwater, cycle and shared paths, road management and how the new Super School and Aldinga Development will influence this. There’s a lot to do and I will provide further updates as these important developments progress. I wish to assure you that Council will continue to work with the various State Government Departments to ensure the community’s voice is heard.
In addition to this there are several Council projects: –
- Aldinga Netball Club will have a transportable clubroom installed
- Three community courts at Symonds Reserve will be resurfaced
- Justs Road Sellicks – stage1 is under construction with stage 2 to follow,
- Council has gone out to public consultation “YOUR SAY” regarding the upgrading of Old Coach Road from Aldinga township through to Maslins Beach. Commencement scheduled for 20/21 financial year. The road reconstruction is proposed to widen the traffic lanes as well as provide for a sealed shoulder 1.5 m wide (Cycle lane)
- The Sellicks Beach esplanade carpark (Esplanade and Francis Street) has been out for public consultation and will be designed over the next few months with works to commence in April 2020. The lower carpark is earmarked for upgrade in 20/21
- At Moana we will be constructing a 2.5m wide aggregate path along the remaining western side of Commercial Road to complete the link between new Moana seaside subdivision and Gulf Parade. Project includes kerbing, on road bike lane and tree planting.
- Myerhoff Street playground will be upgraded this financial year and there will be public consultation on the design and upgrading of Babbacomb Drive Reserve at Moana ,
- Pending replacement of the playground equipment at Clarrie Eatts Reserve, Aldinga Beach and Quadrant Reserve playground and surrounds at Seaford ready for budget discussions for 20 /21
