The scientific evidence is pretty conclusive: planet Earth is undergoing a severe climate change event and we’re all experiencing more and more extreme weather.

And while melting polar ice caps and retreating Alpine glaciers may seem a long way from Aldinga Bay, we are in fact feeling the effects of climate change right here, right now.

That’s why, at the next General Meeting of the Aldinga Bay Residents Association, we have invited a number of concerned and knowledgeable local residents to address the meeting on the topic of Extreme Weather Events and the Possible Impacts on Society, Economy, Environment and Lifestyle.

Wendi will use the recently compiled City of Onkaparinga Heat Map to highlight the effects of different building materials, vegetation, foliage and location in determining the temperature inside and around your home. You’ll be surprised at how much the ambient temperature can differ from house to house.

The speakers will outline how major emergency organisations such as Red Cross, SES, Royal District Nursing Service and others are preparing for extreme weather, and the impact it will have on our day to day lifestyle.

Finally, Marion Ferguson will explore how we can prepare ourselves for extreme weather, and what we can do as individuals to make ourselves climate ready.

Each speaker will give a brief presentation, with questions to follow. Even if you’re one of the few who remain unconvinced by the climate science, you’ll learn a few ideas on how to make your home more liveable and be better prepared.
