The recently announced federal budget has provided $1.5 million in federal funding for a shared walking and cycling track between McLaren Flat and McLaren Vale.
The trail has been long argued for by local residents, community groups and the Coast to Vines Bicycle User Group, as a vital project in our community. The trail is envisaged to link to the existing Coast to Vines Trail.
Federal MP Rebekah Sharkie has said that “The proposed pathway offers opportunities for enhancing the experiences of visitors to the Santos Tour Down Under international cycling event and it would connect with other tourism and cycling trails, including the sports park link trail, the Coast Park Trail and even a future Onkaparinga River trail… I would like to thank the Federal Government for listening to the case put forward by our community and investing $1.5 million into this enormously worthwhile project.”
The City of Onkaparinga Council will now consider bringing forward the remain $450,000 needed for the rest of the project as well as final details of the route.
