The Willunga Almond Blossom Festival, in partnership with the Willunga Environment Centre’s volunteers, are undertaking an initiative to collect the green waste from this year’s festival.

This will entail an education program with volunteer ‘bin buddies’ directing the general public to the use of the correct bins and the caterers having compostable tableware, which can be disposed into the green bin on site in the food area at this year’s festival. This green waste is then delivered to our local Peat’s Soil for composting.

Signage to be supplied by Onkaparinga Council, Willunga Environment Centre and the festival caterers will direct and educate our visitors to the use of the correct bin for their waste, also as the Willunga Environment Centre actively encourages local business to be plastic straw free we will be asking our caterers to do the same and serve their refreshments with alternatives to plastics straws.

We look forward to expanding on this initiative in the following years as understanding of the environmental impact is shared by the visitors to Willunga.
